This is often the case so we finally bought a motion-activated trail camera to see for ourselves who was doing all the coming and going. We miss our guests! Like so many small businesses right now, we’re temporarily closed in order to do our part for physical distancing to slow the spread of the Covid-19 corona virus. Spring has arrived and that means cycling season is in full swing around here!
Biking may not be the first activity that comes to mind when you think of a getaway in "cottage country" but pedal power is a great way to experience the region. While we know we share our forest and surroundings with moose all sorts of wildlife, it's not every day we get to actually see them. That's why we were so excited for our guests -- and ourselves -- to have so many sightings this season.
The highlight was a mother moose and her calf spotted hanging out at the pond for five days straight! We've been seeing signs of one local resident for months. All winter we routinely saw fresh tracks in the snow and and the occasional glimpse of orange fur through the trees and we figured out there must be a den in the woods just beyond our back meadow. Our sly neighbour has become quite bold and one March evening as guest sat around the fire pit, the foxy fella sat on a knoll and Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16769914460600593921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4797263218014702373.post-49179061072838415882016-12-19T00:24:00.001-05:002016-12-19T09:29:01.094-05:00Jim and Jackie's Adventure Down Under

Finished projects -- crossed off the list!
Ever a work-in-progress, we're continually adding projects to our "how can we make it better?" list and, as time and resources allow, crossing them off with a flourish and sense of accomplishment.
Our main project this spring was a new gazebo to replace the old one which was starting to look weathered. The Quiet Season is here. It's the time between snowy adventures and summer fun, when the natural world is still waking up. The snow is gone (or nearly gone) and the lakes haven't warmed up enough to play in. The upside? Spring brings an increase in outdoor activity for all kinds of animals—even the two-legged variety. No doubt, autumn is a beautiful time for a getaway, but it encompasses a broad stretch of time that includes many micro-seasons. So when should you come for a getaway? Well that depends on what you want to see and do. Here's our breakdown...

Early summer days, fresh local strawberries, and Canada's 148th birthday all had me hankering for an old-fashioned, fresh-flavoured dessert. I wanted something not too sweet or fussy but with enough "wow" to serve to company.
For inspiration, I found myself leafing through one of my favourite cookbooks, Food That Really Schmecks by Edna Staebler. Earlier this year we had to say goodbye to Saba. I shared a note with our facebook friends, and am writing about it here, because so many of our guests have enjoyed the hospitality of our four-legged innkeeper over the years.
Saba was just shy of three years old when we uprooted from Toronto to buy this B&B on 120 acres of woods and meadows 10 years ago. Snowshoe tracks winding through untouched snow.
There's nothing like snowshoeing through a quiet forest to clear the mind and shake off the weight of a busy day. It's a wonderful experience at any hour, but even more so late in the afternoon on a clear day, when the sun casts a golden light against the trees before sinking behind a rosy horizon.
Warm sun, cool sky, fresh air.
