There are numerous organized events in Muskoka and Almaguin in the summer months. Festivals, art gallery tours, competitive sports, live theatre, community fairs, wildlife education... and the list goes on. Find something that tickles your fancy and come on out for a great summer getaway.

Muskoka 5150 & Sprint Triathlon Weekend

Beautiful scenery, challenging terrain, and cheering crowds make this an event that should not be missed either as a participant, a volunteer, or a spectator. This award-winning 2011 documentary presents the most up-to-date commentary on Canada’s best-known artist — the man whose name is synonymous with the rugged Algonquin landscape. Also featured are startling revelations about incidents that followed Thomson’s mysterious 1917 death at Canoe Lake.

Muskoka Novel Marathon
Huntsville
Writers and those aspiring can buckle down for a 72-hour writing marathon. Now in its 12th year, the Muskoka Novel Marathon has raised almost $50,000 to help fund Huntsville’s adult literacy over its history, and launched several authors on literary careers. The Limberlost Challenge
Limberlost Reserve, east of Huntsville
This endurance event is a trail runners dream with challenging terrain alongside lakes, through wetland, up and over steep inclines, and through the occasional creek or mud hole. Includes a well marked course, post-race meal, chip timing and points-qualifying distances. Four race distances to choose from: 14k, 28k, 42k, and 56k. See The Limberlost Challenge for details.

Discover Trout Fishing in Algonquin Park

Algonquin Park is home to one of the world's best trout fisheries. Many anglers familiar with warm water fisheries to the south find Algonquin's Brook Trout and Lake Trout a mystery and often find themselves in a frustrating fishing situation. Join retired senior fisheries specialist, and owner of Dragonfly Guiding, Greg Betteridge to discover the ecology, behaviour, and techniques necessary to increase your chances of catching Algonquin's two famous trout species. Photography Workshop: Flora & Wildflowers
Algonquin Park
Learn about the beautiful wildflowers that carpet Algonquin’s hardwood slopes and how best to capture them in photos. Photographer/teacher Debbie Bradley will demystify camera settings and techniques and a Park naturalist will accompany the group for plant identification and to explain the natural history of the plant species we find along the trail. Enjoy a day of photography capturing the natural beauty of Algonquin Park, including an indoor instructional session and review, and hands-on experiential field excursion for practice. Look, See, Paint Workshop - Adults
Algonquin Park
Experience artist Jeff Miller's unique style of instruction and participate in watercolour painting to view Algonquin's spectacular surroundings in a whole new light. During this half-day painting excursion, participants will learn the Look, See, Paint concept while appreciating the natural environment of Algonquin Park. Workshop includes all necessary paint, paper and brushes; instruction from Jeff Miller;  valid Park permit for the day of the workshop. Maximum 15 participants, aged 16 years or older. Canada Day in Huntsville
Plenty to do all day long as we celebrate the nation's birthday. Cake, flags and music in River Mill Park from 9:30 - 11:30 am. Live jazz on the town hall steps from 11am - 3pm. Strawberry Social at Muskoka Heritage Place from 10am - 4pm. Girl 8 Festival featuring local female-led performing artists at River Mill Park beginning at 7pm. The Mayflower Lake Amphitheatre in Arrowhead Park is hosting a performance by folk singer Glen Reid and fiddler Marion Linton from 7:30 - 9pm. It all ends with a bang: Fireworks over Hunters Bay from dusk till 10pm (Avery Beach is a great viewing location).

Algonquin Park Programs

Throughout the summer and fall, Algonquin Provincial Park offers an array of special events and interpretive programs to give visitors a deeper understanding and appreciate for the park and the natural world. Events include public wolf howls, canoe paddle carving, wild and edible plants, nature photography, animal tracking and more. The sky puts on a light show every year from early- to mid-August. We'll have a full moon during the peak nights, which will impede viewing, but the weeks leading up to the peak should still provide enough shooting stars for some good wishes!
